Question by Pumpkin: Do you think people have to get a “parenting” license before they’re allowed to have kids?
I mean, any idiot can become a parent. I think that there should be a psychological test before people are allowed to have kids. Just thinking.
Maybe we should all go Gattaca. Besides, I don’t think it’s a silly question. But thank you for taking the time.

absolutely. although im for breeding licenses. where you would need to be a in a good position to have kids. that means good jobs, a good home, good mental health, responsible, trustworthy, and a slwe of other things. look at britney spears…am i the only one who feels sorry for that kid?

If you did have to get a liscense, what would you do with all the illegal births? take them away, and over fill the orphanages? kill the kids?
sorry, this question is just silly.
I think people really need to educate themselves about parenting. It is a hard job and I don’t think many people realize it until they already have kids. I read many books on parenting and I think it has made me a better and calmer mother.
Have you seen the movie “Gattica”-Uma Thurman is one of the stars. The scenario-the government regulated the number of children that a couple could have and profiled the childs’ life span. It would be almost impossible to realistically regulate a persons’ right to bare children. Because of Roe V. Wade-the woman has a right to her own body. What would the government do? Take the children away? Where would the government house the children and who would care for them? It would be a good idea to issue a license. BUT- the federal, state or local government has no business determining who is fit to give birth and procreate. The deficit is how high now? They need to work on that first.
May be in your country other wise parenting and kids are own decisions.
PRIVATE BUSINESS I MEAN
With all of the screwed up people in this world, I would definitely say ‘Yes!’. We are not in the jungle anymore and parenthood should be planned to some degree. You can’t just bring a kid into this world without thinking of how you will be able to raise one properly. I don’t think it’s fair to limit births based on intelligence, because parenting is still somewhat a natural instinct and it can also be learned. I would rather see limits based on financial ability. There is nothing I love seeing more that mom and dad standing in the welfare line with their six kids looking for a nice handout.
LOL……… No KIDDING>>>> That is a GREAT idea!!
I have always said, if you need a license to drive, fish, hunt, teach or practice medicine, etc. why in the world don’t you need one to raise a human being… The funny thing is, I doubt half of us would be here lol!
Absolutely. In an ideal world people who would make good parents and wanted kids, would have them – and everyone else wouldn’t. It’s certainly not a silly question, but sadly, the logistics of implementing such a law are beyond being a nightmare.
There are so many people out there who shouldn’t be allowed within five miles of schools and child care centres, let alone be allowed to breed. And then there are people who would make wonderful parents and they’re infertile. It seems so cruel to see people abuse the kids they have, when there are people around who’d do an infinitely better job yet will never be parents.
Perhaps that’s the solution: people who have proven that they are unfit to be parents surrender their child/ren to infertile people who’d be adequate parents. Then there’s no question as to where the kids go when people that shouldn’t be breeding bring kids into the world.
Still a logistical nightmare, but a tiny bit less unfair all around. After all, why should children be subjected to unfit parents? The parents don’t deserve to have the kids – and the kids certainly don’t deserve to be forced to endure an upbringing at the hands of people who will leave them physically and/or psychologically scarred.
yes i agree so when one or his wife stand in court the judge can really do a fine justice punishment with a big smile .good question poor kids are abused every day in every place on earth horray for a good mind .
I agree !!! It terrifies me when I hear of something stupid a parent did to their child -like here where I live there was a 3 year old that was found on the side of the road -he had wandered off a mile from his house- and his mom wasn’t even concerned -she said he does it all the time!!!! And I am outraged when I hear of a parent harming or killing their child -if they didn’t want the child they should have gave them to a family that would have loved and cared for it -its ashame when something like that happens – for those reasons i think some people should be tested for their sanity or aleast have to be certified that they are safe to raise a child
It’s too bad that, as you say, any idiot can become a parent. But who would determine who can have kids and who can’t? What factors would be taken into consideration? Would race, creed or financial situation influence the verdict on their capacity?
Can, for instance, a Muslim be allowed to have daughters who will be discriminated even within their family just because of their gender? Can a Jew be allowed to have sons who he will mutilate by circumcision (yes, in some countries circumcision, unless prescribed for certain conditions is considered an unnecessary mutilation)?
What’s sane and what isn’t? Should children grow up in a house where parents are smokers or even social drinkers? Should children be bred within a family where fast food is taken more than twice a week?
It borders on fascism to want to rule those things
A lot of people have kids, and many of them, unfortunately, make awful parents… But it seems a really risky field to have anyone (who may be as much of an idiot as the people he’d be testing) rule people out for parenthood.
Silly Question yes but must definately
any parent should agree
Yes! OMG that is so my question!!! Good one.
after having 3 kids, i totally feel that there should be some kind testing, counseling and class that everyone should have to take before being able to pro-create. its not as easy as you think and children are so trying sometimes.
A “test” before having a kid. Right. I guess the parents of yahoo answerers should have taken a test & we wouldnt get these answers? No. No test or license should be necessary or required to have a child. Its your own private life & not something else that needs regulated.
As a former teacher my colleagues and I often joked about this.
You need a license to drive, fish, etc. Why not one to have children? Of course I don’t know how it would all work out. However it is something to ponder about.
Many people give birth and think that is all they have to do. The TV, school, or society will do the rest.
That is part of the problem I believe in today’s world.
