Question by Yea_Its_Me: Is there any way to find biological parents from a “sealed adoption”?
My husband was adopted in Kentucky around 1975. He says that the adoption was “sealed” and therefor he cannot obtain the name of his parents. Does anyone know whether or not any laws have changed which would allow him to do so?

There are several adoption reunion organizations and registries. For starters, try:

Sealed means just that sealed I would suggest you contact a local lawyer from the kentucky area or find out who handled the adoption and maybe he or she is caring enough to help you out in the grey area of life.Look up the agency and then find out who the agent was.Good luck.Another thing you can try to do is find the hospital records they should be public record! They keep records of births maybe you can contact the dr. that brought him into the world.Just some ideas, again good luck.
Yes, he CAN find her name via public record. I’ll email you and tell you how.
His mother did NOT seal his records, the state did that when the adoption was finalized.
ETA: The laws won’t change until WE do something to change them. Two States never sealed the records and now six States have restored the rights of adoptees to information about their own lives, Maine being the most recent to change.
Wont you join us in Philly this July at the Annual State Legislators Convention to raise awareness that this antique laws are still on the books and need to change?
