How does the adoption process work? Fees, etc? Is there always a long waiting period?

I’m a married mother of two boys, but my husband is fixed, and we would like to have a daughter.

Adoption is a long process for a newborn. Why not forget that and become a foster parent and then adopt. There are a lot of kids who need homes and they are not ill, have no mental troubles, and need love.

I think it is really expensive. They say only really wealthy families can afford it. I’m not sure about the waiting period though.

Every type of adoption (including adoptions of orphans from various countries) has its own process and fees.

If you really want a daughter then I’d suggest looking into a Chinese adoption. We adopted a little girl 2 years ago and are now in the process of adopting a second.

For a Chinese adoption, you could do it from start to finish in about a year and a half. Nine months to 12 months of that is waiting for the Chinese government to process your paperwork.

I’d suggest Great Wall China Adoption. They only do Chinese adoptions so they know the system inside and out. If you send off for an information pack, you’ll get all your answers plus a DVD of what it’s like to do a Chinese adoption.

If you do decide to go the international adoption route, find others who have used the same agency and get their emotional support.

If you decide to go the domestic adoption route, then you’ll need to find an agency to get their rules for your state’s requirements of adoptions.

Adoption is a wonderful thing. Those who haven’t done the process have their opinions about what to do. Flush those. Find Yahoo groups on adoption and talk to the people who have done it. It’s a journey with a lot of trials, hardships, and means opening yourself up to people and government agencies. I’m not a conspiracy theorist/militant, but I was none to happy to have to have my fingerprints on file with various government agencies just because I wanted to do an honorable thing.

I’m going to recommend two sites. Like I said before, the first is Great Wall China Adoption. The second is a personal site for our second adoption. If you need to ask questions, there’s a link on the second site to get to me…..
